I’m very happy to share the news that Orbit US will be celebrating its tenth year of presence on the market for Science Fiction and Fantasy literature: you will find an interesting article detailing the history of these past ten years on Barnes & Noble Sci-Fi and Fantasy Blog.
And in the best Hobbit tradition for birthdays, presents will be given instead of received: in this case a not-to-be-missed deal on the ebook version of 10 of the most successful Orbit titles for the past decade, including some of my favorites like James S.A. Corey LEVIATHAN WAKES, ย M.R. Carey THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS, or Mira Grant’s FEED. ย And many more…

Thanks for posting this – I had no idea Orbit was only 10 years – I don’t know why but I thought they’d been around for much much longer. Great books is probably why.

From what I understand, Orbit UK has been around since the mid 70s (and that might be the reason you believe it’s been in operation for a longer time), while Orbit US was launched as a “daughter” company 10 years ago. No matter the age, their books are among the best, indeed. ๐
Orbit is one of the most consistent publishers around methinks. I am not sure that my very favorite books the last few years have come from them (well, Ancillary Justice) but i also can’t think of many that were complete misses.
When I examined the list of their best hits in these past 10 years I saw a great number of books I loved, even though – just to play contrary ๐ – Anne Leckie’s novel did not work for me.
I am amazed Orbit is only ten years old. I thought they’ve been around for a while, like Tor. They publish a lot of my favorite books ๐
