If there is a Taggers Anonymous association I might need to go their meetings, because I seem to be addicted to tag posts lately 😀 I recently saw this one on Bookforager’s blog and I decided to give it a spin, so here is my take in this new bookish tag…
How do you keep track on your TBR list?
That’s easy – sort of… I do practically all of my reading in e-book format, so the books I still have to read are stored in a folder on my computer, and from there they are copied on the e-reader when the mood strikes me to read them. After that, they are saved on a dedicated USB drive that also works as a backup for the as-yet-unread books. Neat and dust-free! 😉
I have been thinking lately about listing my TBR books in an excel file, complete with the date they were added, so I can have a better idea of their “age”, but for now it’s still an idea…
Is your TBR mostly print or e-book?
See above. Ebooks all the way!
How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
Mood determines what I read next, I have no say in the decision process… 😀
Jokes aside, and unless I have a NetGalley ARC lined up (in which case I have to be mindful of the 54 days expiry date for the book), I take a virtual “stroll” through my stored files and choose the book that most appeals to me in that moment.
Name a book that has been on your TBR the longest.
Iain Banks’ CONSIDER PHLEBAS, his first Culture novel: the date of the file tells me it was saved there in 2013, the year before I started blogging. Shame on me!
Name a book that you recently added to your TBR list.
THE CITY OF BRASS, by S.A. Chakraborty: all of my fellow bloggers who have read the trilogy that starts with this volume speak highly of it, and I thought it was high time for me to see for myself. I have high expectations for this one…
Is there a book that’s on your TBR list strictly because of its beautiful cover?
Not really. A particularly intriguing cover might attract my attention, but it’s the synopsis that really closes the deal for me.
Is there a book on your TBR that you never plan on actually reading?
Well, a wise person taught me that “always” and “never” are words far too binding to be used lightly, so I will admit that, right now, I don’t feel strongly motivated to read GRR Martin’s FIRE AND BLOOD: my disappointment at the way the ASOIAF saga was wrapped up in the tv series, and my lack of faith in Martin’s willingness to conclude the book series have cooled the initial enthusiasm in a considerable way.
Name an unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for.
I have no ARCs on my TBR as I’m writing this, but I’m looking with interest at Joe Abercrombie’s THE TROUBLE WITH PEACE, the second volume in his new series The Age of Madness. I enjoyed the first book so much that it finally drove me to read The First Law trilogy.
Is there a book on your TBR that basically everyone has read but you?
THE WAY OF KINGS, by Brandon Sanderson: it would seem that I am the only person on Earth (and probably in the rest of the Solar System as well) who has not read a Sanderson novel. Please don’t shoot me!!!!
Is there a book on your TBR that everyone recommends you read?
Becky Chambers THE LONG WAY TO A SMALL, ANGRY PLANET: all of my fellow bloggers who read it are very enthusiastic about both this book and the others in the series, so I will have to start it one of these days, possibly sooner rather than later.
A book on your TBR you’re very excited to read.
James Islington’s THE SHADOW OF WHAT WAS LOST: other bloggers’ reviews hint at a very layered, very immersive story, and I’m waiting for the right moment to start it – since it’s a very hefty volume, I know I will need a distraction-free moment, so for now I’m biding my time, but still keep looking at this book with great anticipation.
The number of books on your TBR shelf.
Don’t make me count them, please! I might fall into an abyss of despair…
Lol at Taggers Anonymous! 😀
If it helps, I quite enjoyed Fire and Blood, even though I’m not a great fan of ASOIAF books (especially book 4 and on, shudder!) But on the other hand I didn’t enjoy The City of Brass at all, so maybe you shouldn’t take my opinion under much consideration! 😉

I bought Fire and Blood, which means that I will probably like it – it’s just that right now I’m a little annoyed at Martin’s continuous delays… 🙂 As for City of Brass, only time will tell!

If you’ve gone on this long without reading Banks’ Culture, I see no reason to start now 😉
(I was not a fan of that series or Banks)

Not surprised Bookstooge says that, don’t listen to him 😛 Banks’ universe is my personal Utopia 🙂
Sanderson, on the other hand, is not a required reading, Elantris is the only one I read and it was so boring and flat…
LikeLiked by 2 people
Ha! and Elantris is also is debut work (though not his first book).
I remember having some enlightening conversations with Piotre and I think Bormgans (if he doesn’t use the name Bart in his title, I don’t call him that). Definitely would have taken care of some of my issues, but only in a shallow, exterior way.
So I guess when you do read Banks, you’re going to have to decide who you like more:
Sergeant Bookstooge, of the 9th Book Army
or
Civilian Piotre (and we all know about “those” civvies).
I trust your judgement Grand Admiral Ola!
😉
My goodness, I have so much with you guys. And you even play along, which makes it even nicer.

As I told Bookstooge, I already have a few Culture books under my proverbial belt, and I think now I can go back to Phlebas and try and see why that first, too-soon-ended attempt did not work back then… 🙂

I’ve read a few Culture book, only I had started Phlebas and abandoned it long ago, only to learn later that it’s not the best place to start with Banks, so I waited. And waited. And waited… 😀

This is a fun tag, I may jump in and do it one of these days. And you are NOT the only person who hasn’t read Sanderson *hides face*

Ah well! I feel a LOT better already! 😀 😀 😀

“Taggers Anonymous” – Ha! We need tee shirts! (of course, that kind of ruins the anonymous bit, I guess) 😀
I started Banks’ Culture series, but still haven’t read them all and I keep meaning to go back to the beginning and start again. Le sigh.
As for that Excel document – dooo iiiittt! All information should be put into Excel documents! Ha ha ha! 😀
(P.S. thank you for the shout out). ❤

I started an Excel file of the books I read and reviewed this year to help me write a more… comprehensive post at the end of 2020, but the “archive” file would require a lot of work and I would need to be in the right frame of mind ;-). But maybe one of these days….

That kind of thing is just something I love to do! For everyone else it’s definitely a job for when you have the time and inclination… maybe i should hire myself out, ha ha! 🤣🤣🤣

I get a mix of ebooks and print books and now audiobooks so I have to keep track with a spreadsheet nowadays, lol. And I’m so excited for the new Abercrombie as well!

Spreadsheets are one of the best inventions after the wheel and antibiotics! 😀
Jokes aside, they are more than helpful, indeed…

Never fear, I have also not read The Way of Kings (and it is also in my TBR pile hahaha). Love this tag, not sure if I filled it out yet, might have to see. 🙂

I have to confess that I compiled a list of these interesting tags for future use… Hence the need for Taggers Anonymous! 😀 😀

LOL! I usually bookmark them when I see them around and then use them when I have space in my scheduling haha. 🙂

I have a very handy “notes” gizmo included in my browser that allows me to mark down any interesting link for future use: it’s perfect as a memory support 🙂

Lol… I think you’ve a way to go before you’re officially classed as a Tagger addict:)). I love this one! I may even jump in and take part if I don’t get too crazily busy at the back end of this month. I thoroughly enjoyed your answers – it’s always great to see how folks organise their books and choose the next read:))

Well, new technologies require new ways of handling things and with our ever-growing TBRs we need all the help we can get! 😀

I love how organised you are Maddalena! You must have a very neat and ordered TBR! 😀

Sadly, it’s not! Picture me as a squirrel – only instead of amassing nuts in a tree-hole, I amass ebooks on my hard drive… 😀 😀

Haha, don’t worry I won’t make you count your stacks and stacks of books.
Brandon Sanderson, the Way of Kings is such a weighty book but I have to say it didn’t feel like that when reading it. I loved it and the second. I now just need to make time for No.3 which I have a copy in audio – it’s a bit daunting though standing at 40+ hours.

I guess one of the reasons I keep procrastinating with Sanderson is the sheer size of his books and the equally sheer number of them… When I consider it all, it’s more than overwhelming! 🙂

Haha Sanderson books *are* pretty hefty and 1000+ pages for each book kinda feels like a lot. 😛 And I’ve been meaning to finish the Daevabad trilogy too! I read a small bit of the first book when it came out, and then left it aside and forgot about it. But I’ve been hearing incredible things about book 3, so…..better late than never!

I’ve been drawn to the Daevabad trilogy by the reviews I read from bloggers whose tastes I trust, so I will have to see for myself. Sometimes, when books don’t immediately agree with us, it’s good policy to set them aside for a while and wait for… better times 🙂

Wise words 😁 People have assured me that things *really* get interesting at the end of book 1, and that it’s all uphill from there, so I’m tentatively hopeful!

Wait…expiry date? I thought the books stay in our kindle forever?! 😱😱😱
Awww don’t worry. I haven’t even read a SINGLE one by Brandon Sanderson. 😉🤣🤣 I am planning to though.
Loved reading your answers, Mads!! 😍😍😍
And hey, guess what? I am finally reading a Sci Fi!! The House of Styx!! AND IT IS AWESOMEEEEE!!! Have you read it yet?! 😍😍

As far as I know, the books I receive from NetGalley have a 54-days expiry date, but I download them as .epub files, while the Kindle version might work differently…
As for House of Styx I did not know about this book, but a quick web search showed me that it might be an amazing read indeed: alien planets’ colonization is one of my favorite themes so… thank you for the tip!!! 🙂

You need to fix that Sanderson-less life you’re conducting nowadays! 😀 I’m convinced that there’s at least one that will have you jumping up and down in joy! My first was actually The Way of Kings too hahaha I hope you enjoy Islington’s trilogy when you get around to it. I’m going through the final book and look forward to sharing my thoughts on it in the near future. 😀 Awesome answers, Maddalena!

I know, I know, there is a huge Sanderson-shaped chasm in my collection of read books, and one of these days I will fill it – the problem is I get so easily distracted by all the other interesting books I see, and poor Sanderson keeps being shuffled down the list…
Islington will probably be one of the next interesting “shinies” that grabbed my attention 😉

This is a very nice tag! And the way you organize your TBR is very neat! I am way more messy about it, but since the TBR would eat me whole one of these days I am not complaining too much! 😉
LikeLiked by 1 person
Well, I would not call my TBR “organized”… Let’s say that the titles are more easily accessible than if they were placed on a real shelf (or rather *shelves*). And your image of a carnivorous TBR is not so far from the actual truth for many of us – if not all… 😀
