MUSIC MONDAY is a weekly meme created by The Tattooed Book Geek and one which inspired me to celebrate science fiction through music. I can’t think of a better composer in this genre (among others, of course) than delightfully talented Hans Zimmer, whose works complete and enhance many genre movies, so I have chosen tracks from some of my favorite SF movies that were made even better by their amazing soundtracks.
The first track in what I plan to be a Monday recurring post for the duration of SciFiMonth, comes from the movie INCEPTION:
This is an intricately complex movie where reality and dream intersect – at times in quite dizzying ways – and the soundtrack underlines this with a varied musical score.
My absolute favorite track is TIME, the one that carries us to the end of the movie and that ends abruptly with the still image of the spinning top, leaving the audience in doubt about the final sequence being the reality or the dream.
Like many Hans Zimmer compositions, TIME starts softly and then slowly gains in strength and power as more instruments get into the mix. I recommend listening with full volume for the full experience 😉
Zimmer sure has done a lot of work for some iconic movies! and good work too 😀
